Scythian Gold (Seth)
Scythian Gold (Seth) is a yearling by Mongol Warrior out of the dam Now My Precious.
Seth comes to us from Tranquility Farms, where he was foaled, and was exceptionally cared for by Priscilla Clark. However, Seth has quite a back story and were it not for the interaction of many compassionate individuals that rose up to save his dam, Now My Precious, would not be here to tell the tale.
His dam was part of a sudden dispersal of 46 horses by top breeder Benjamin Warren of Warren’s Thoroughbreds in Hemet, CA.
Most of the horses were pregnant brood mares that were given or sold to an unidentified individual in Riverside, California. They were later transferred to a new owner near Phoenix, Arizona who sells unwanted horses cheaply at auction or transports them to Mexico for slaughter.
Mr. Warren still claims he gave the horses to an individual in Riverside and still denies that he had sold them to a buyer in Arizona.
Priscilla eventually bought all 40 mares and five stallions and adopted them out except for the 4 mares that she brought back to Tranquility Farm to foal.
There were 46 horses in total that Ben Warren allegedly dumped, and the only one that Priscilla couldn't rescue was the sire of Valerie's Gift. Dante's Inferno.
"He (Mr. Warren) wouldn't sell that beautiful stallion to me, even though I offered him up to 5,000, and that poor horse stood for months in barbed wire
on a pile of rocks in the burning sun.
I never found out what happened to him but it breaks my heart. Anyway, your little Gigi is special, a limited edition for sure."
Now Seth is ready for training and a new life but will never be groomed for the track. He will grow up and be trained at Kimberlee Farms for a career in jumping and then we hope to adopt him out to a good home at the appropriate time. His breeding and conformation are excellent and he is a top candidate for a show career. We have taken Seth on even though he needs expensive cataract surgery. Priscilla has so many horses that she does not have the time to invest in training for youngsters and also is not in a position to pay for an expensive surgery at this point in time. Neigh Savers will try to raise the funds for this surgery for the surgery needs to happen as soon as possible to avoid further compromise of Seth’s eye. Once that barrier is removed, Seth will be able to move forward with his training plan.
Seth is not available for adoption at this time but will be in future so we are now listing him on our Horses for Adoption page. We will continue to update our supporters on his progress. If someone is interested in Seth, or sponsoring or partly sponsoring him, they are most welcome to contact us now.
Update: March 2010
Seth is on his way to regaining his vision! Prior to the surgery, Seth’s ophthalmologist has requested that he be treated with 2 different
medications in hopes of reducing the cataract’s size. By doing this pre-operatively, we are increasing the probability of a successful outcome.
Thank goodness for carrots! Even a 750 pound yearling, who has his own ideas about life, can be coaxed into standing quietly for his eye treatments. Thank you to our
sponsors who have generously contributed to Seth’s eye surgery. Without your unending support, we could not give
Seth the gift of vision.
Update: August 2010
Seth had his eye surgery at the Eye Clinic for Animals in San Diego in July. Dr. Barbara Steele reports he came out of surgery like a champ and the prognosis
for complete vision recovery is excellent. Seth must wear an eye mask for 5-6 weeks and is hand walked daily. He is a willing and tolerant patient.
Update: October 2010
Seth is back to normal and ready for adoption. His eye surgery was completely successful.
Update: March 2011
Seth has been adopted! His new adopter is a young lady that just finished her MBA in the Los Angeles area. The better news is that Seth will continue to live
at Kimberlee Farms under private sponsorship now. Congratulations Alexandra on taking Seth into your life! Alexandra writes:
"I would love nothing more than to
adopt Seth and give him a loving forever home. He is a beautiful,
great horse and has obviously secured special places in many hearts."
