Chief Little Man (Click here for Past Performances)
Chief Little Man is an example of a horse that gives his all on the track, even willing to die in his quest to win. It is unusual to see
a race horse of Chief's caliber and heart come into the program as one of the sweetest horses we have ever seen. Chief raced only 12 times but won 7
of those races, including his last three in a row. He also hit the board an incredible 10 of 12 starts and earned 55K. Chief is little, at 15.3 h/h but a
mighty warrior and force. He is a five year old chestnut gelding by Gilded Time (Timeless Moment) but gets his name through his mother's dam (Cherokee Run).
The Chief last raced at Golden Gate Fields on February 11, 2011. Shortly after his last race he developed a breathing problem that was so severe that
the track vet had to perform an emergency tracheotemy. When his breathing did not improve he was rushed to UC Davis Veterinary Hospital where it was
discovered he had an abscess in his throat which was successfully removed. He also had some minor bone chips removed from his right knee and when he came to us that
knee was very swollen. After several months in rehab he is completely healed and sound and has completed his ground manner training and has been trained under
saddle. We had him both in English and Western saddles and he tolerates both.
Update: September 2011
The Chief has turned into an awesome trail horse and is being trained in Western Pleasure. He is easy going, confident and sensible. He can be taken on solo
rides or in a group and is fearless and calm on trail. Chief is also very personable and loves to play with plastic water bottles and drink out of them.
Chief also enjoys working in the arena. He is easy to handle and has great ground manners. Chief is very people orientated and extremely cute and a true find for
anyone looking for a hard working horse with lots of heart and good manners.
